5 Weeks 'Til Christmas

Goal: Love all the little children

Remember that old children's song that we grew up to in church?..... "Jesus loves the little children. All the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world...." Well for this week's goal (the week of Thankgiving), I find myself being VERY thankful for all the kiddos in my life! I could be having a rough morning or dealing with some stress-filled personal issues... but oh boy... when I walk into a classroom and see those little precious faces eager to learn.. WOW! My heart just does a flip-flop! Or when a little boy is crying his heart out because his kitty got ran over that morning... I don't have time for my stress. That little boy needs a hug and I give that to him, while fighting back my own tears; or when I walk into a room full of family and friends that I love, the first face that I seek out is my little Chloe Bear's; or when a child let's a fart slip out in the middle of calendar time and even though I'm supposed to be professional, I simply can't help laughing out loud along with all the kiddos! ;) Or when I see previous students who run up to me and almost tackle me down to the ground with such a big hug! I LOVE children, and I'm not sure how I ever survived by not being around them all the time. It amazes me that I almost missed my calling in this life, but I am SO thankful that I didn't. One of these days, I'll be a mother to my own children, and I know I'll develop an even deeper love and connection to all the little ones in my life. =)

Jesus ESPECIALLY loved the little children! Here's why: In Matthew 18, His disciples asked, "Which of us is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?" Instead of answering right away, Jesus called a small child over to them (I like to picture Jesus picking the child up and cuddling him on his lap, like my dad used to do with me) and then He said, "I assure you, unless you turn from your sins and become as little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. Therefore, anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who trusts in me to lose faith, it would be better for that person to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around the neck."

WHOA!!! (Joey Lawrence style... Ha! ha!) Did you just read that? First of all... Jesus said that unless we turn from our sins and become humble as little children, that we will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. Secondly... He says that anyone who welcomes a little child is welcoming Him. Wow! And lastly... wow... it shows our Savior speaking very passionately in regards to one of us causing a child to lose faith. If we become as humble as a child, we will be the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven... so how important is it that we teach our children about Jesus? Children will naturally believe and see through eyes of faith, but we MUST help them keep that faith.... especially as they mature and most especially in this day and age.

Obviously, as I go into my profession of teaching in the public school system, I won't be able to openly profess the message of Jesus, but what I can do is show them LOVE. I can pray for these kiddos and I can ask that through their eyes of faith, they will see and feel the love of Jesus through me. In every hug, in every smile, in every correction or re-direction, in every praise/compliment, etc. Wherever you're at... and however you keep in contact with the children in your life, I challenge you to LOVE them. If you're not able to be around the children in your lives very much, don't forget that PRAYING for them is crucial to expressing your love. Pray for protection, blessings, favor, and pray God's promises over their lives. If you are blessed to be around the children in your life, then maybe just making extra time or giving an extra hug or praise would be a good way to show love. I am convinced that just as it is human nature to want to be accepted, how much more is it that children will want to be accepted? And loved? And what better way to show them our love, than by telling them about our SAVIOR'S love-- the greatest love of all!

6 Weeks 'Til Christmas

Goal: Forgive

In John 8, while Jesus was teaching to a crowd at the Mount of Olives, the religious leaders dragged an adulterous woman in front of the crowd to test His philosophies. The law of Moses said to stone her, but they wanted to know what Jesus would say instead. Here it is, "All right, stone her. But let those who have never sinned throw the first stones!" After He said that, all of the accusers slipped away one by one until it was only Jesus and the adulterous woman left in the middle of the crowd. He asked her, "Whare are your accusers? Didn't even one of them condemn you?" "No Lord", she said. Then Jesus said (I love these words!), "Neither do I. Go and sin no more." Now THAT'S forgiveness!

So most definitely... Jesus forgave while He was on this earth, but of course, that hasn't stopped and won't ever stop! If we were made in the image of God, we should practice forgiveness as well. For it says, "If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins." (Matthew 6:14-15) And it says again in Colossians, "You must make allowance for each other's faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others."(vs. 13) I know this can be a hard concept to grasp... especially because I know many of us have been deeply hurt or offended in this life, BUT God's word says that we MUST, or are obligated to, make allowance for each other's faults. It's not an option... it's a commandment.

So this week.... be like Jesus and forgive! Search your hearts and ask God to reveal to you who you need to offer forgiveness. Remember.... forgiveness is not forgetting what happened or acting like it never happened, but it's the first step to relieving your heart of bitterness and anger. If you are still hurt, after you take the step to forgive, this is when the Holy Spirit will finally kick in and start the healing process. But first.. you must let go and forgive.

I am here for anyone specifically who needs prayer in this area. Honestly. =) This can be a hard thing to do, but again, but it's not an option and we are supposed to live like Jesus. Let me know if I can help you in any way.

7 Weeks 'Til Christmas


Goal: Turn the other cheek
You have heard that the law of Moses says, 'If an eye is injured, injure the eye of the person who did it. If a tooth gets knocked out, knock out the tooth of the person who did it.' But I say, don't resist an evil person! If you are slapped on the right cheek, turn the other, too."

One thing we know is that Jesus went above and beyond while He was living on this earth! He was totally radical! He taught on completely radical and contradictory issues that didn't make sense to our worldy views. Even now, as the Holy Spirit resides within us, so many miracles and healings and situations occur, that we STILL can't seem to wrap our minds around! People step out in faith after receiving a word from the Lord, and when it looks totally crazy to the rest of the world, they keep moving forward and keep their eyes on Jesus. Why? Because His Word and His promises are truth.
I have learned that if I want to truly live for God, that I must be ready to do and say what seems weird and crazy to our human perceptions. I must give when others take; I must help when others abuse; I must love when others hate; I must let go when others hold on; I must seek the light when others seek darkness; I must see through eyes of faith when others see through their own; I must turn the other cheek when others fight.
While Jesus was on this earth... He was cast out of cities; He was beaten and whipped; He was betrayed and denied by His own friends; and He was given a public crucifixion right along side two criminals. Jesus experienced torment and humiliation, but He did it simply because He LOVES us. God loves us--- a love that we can choose to have in our own lives. When we turn the other cheek, we do it because of love; because that's what Jesus would do. =)
I don't think this picture needs an explanation.... pretty sure we're all familiar with Cousin Eddie from "Christmas Vacation". Hahahahaha!

8 Weeks 'Til Christmas

Goal: Pray for the sick

So... concentrate really hard and see if you can think of at least 3 people you know that are currently sick and/or enduring the flu season. Umm yeah.... unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I can name more than 3! Thankfully, I myself, have been staying generally healthy, but it's only by the grace of God and my strong immune system. Thank you Jesus! =)

For this week's goal, I'm asking you to simply pray for the sick. As we know... when Jesus walked this earth, He actually physically healed the sick, but since we're not the son of God, then we can at least pray. =) There is power in prayer. Like I mentioned before, I can unfortunately think of more than 3 people... friends, family, students, peers, etc... who could use some supernatural strength right now. Aside from His sacrificial death on the cross, I believe that Jesus is most renowned for His healings, so I thought it only appropriate that I include this in my countdown 'til Christmas.

As you're driving to work, or in the shower, or straightening your hair, or working out, or even laying down before bed... think of at least 3 people in your life that you can breathe a prayer for this week. Pray for healing and strength and a supernatural refreshing over that person; or even if that certain friend or family member is heart sick.. then pray for that sort of healing as well. Jesus didn't limit His healings to just the physical, so why should we limit our prayers? =)

I hope you all have a FABULOUS week! It's time to start getting into the Christmas spirit! Yay for 98.1 and 102.1 for already playing the Christmas music! I love it! And oh yeah... for each blog, I'm also gonna include a picture from several of my favorite Christmas movies. This one is obviously from the orginial "Rudolph"... love it, love it, love it!

McPIFP Goal for Week #36

Hi Friends & Family!

So I've decided to do something a little different for these next few weeks before Christmas... and yes... there's only a FEW weeks left! Appoximately NINE weeks, actually! Don't stress... this is a happy thing! =) For all who know me... doing a Christmas-themed blog shouldn't surprise you. I love the Christmas season... everything about it! The music, the lights, the trees, the smells, the Christmas movies, the family time, the shopping, the baking, the wrapping gifts... EVERYTHING about it! I even love the traffic and crazy shoppers! And I'm especially excited about it this year! ;) But most importantly.. I love that we all take time to acknowledge our Saviour's birth. It's funny to me that we take away so much of the Christ-meaning behind this holiday... changing all the signs to "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas"; changing our schools' Christmas breaks to Winter breaks; company Christmas parties to Holiday parties, etc. Our society changes things to make sure it's PC (politically correct), but yet, CHRISTmas is still a national holiday. No matter how much our society tries to downgrade the meaning behind this "holiday" season... I find it hilarious that we all still celebrate it! Businesses and schools are closed; we all take the time off to spend with family and friends; And we are all, in our own unique way-- PC or not-- celebrating Jesus's birth... not Santa Claus... but JESUS.

We all know the popular song, "The 12 Days of Christmas", right? Well... I'm going to do something simliar, except this blog series will be "The 8 Weeks 'Til Christmas". In honor of Jesus's birthday and in honor of His life here on earth, I'm going to pick a 'Jesus quality' to emulate each week before Christmas. No matter who you are or what you celebrate, HE is the reason for the season! Jesus is truth and He is life! For this week's intro.. I encourage you to allow Him to become real to you. Open your hearts and minds to what He wants to do in your life this holiday season. EXPECT good things! They will happen!

McPIFP Goal for Week #35

Goal: Celebrate "Pastor Appreciation Month"

As some of you may already know, October is Pastor Appreciation Month. This is kind of an unheard "holiday", unless you hear about it from your Christian radio stations. That's how I remembered it... because it definitely wasn't on my planner as important dates. Another important day this week is, "Boss's Day". I was honestly planning on doing my blog over this one, but then decided to do Pastor Appreciation Month instead. Although... you could be a double blessing this week and give thanks to both your boss and your Pastor. Your choice. =)

I don't know about you, but I am SO thankful for my Pastors! Honestly, I'm not quite sure where I would be without them; or where our society would be without them for that matter. For years and years, Pastors have unselfishly provided love, encouragement, counsel, prayer, and guidance. They are ministers of the gospel... sharing with us the greatest gift of all-- God's love. For the most part, Pastors aren't wealthy and a lot of times, they sacrifice quality time with their families in order to be there for us; They spend time in hospitals providing comfort for the sick or they spend time providing pre-marital counseling for young couples in love; They then spend time seeking the Lord for a message to prepare and teach every Sunday morning, all the while trying not to be discouraged by the guy falling asleep in the back row. Ha! ;)

The life of a Pastor is NOT easy, but like teaching... I'm sure it's incredibly rewarding. Like I said, I'm not sure where I'd be without their love and faithfulness. This week... let's show or tell our Pastors that we appreciate them. If you don't attend church regularly or don't have a Pastor, then you can focus your attentions on your boss. Send "thank you" letters/cards; or give a QT gift card; or maybe you know their favorite restaurants; or simply just TELL them "Thank You" in person.

McPIFP Goal for Week #34

Goal: Delight Yourself in the Lord

So this week's goal is going to be a little bit different. Last week was a very life-changing week for me... SO life-changing that I can't contain my very real revelation of the absolute LOVE and faithfulness of our Saviour King!

Most of you all are very well aware of my past and the trials and obstacles that I've had to overcome to get where I'm at today. BUT, what I hope for above anything else, is that you realize that I didn't get to this place without crying out to God. In November 2008... after running away from the Lord when I got divorced.. I went down to the altar to FINALLY ask for healing of my broken and disappointed heart. I knew that I was living the way I was because I was so hurt and broken, and I needed to be healed. I asked my Pastor to simply pray for healing of a broken heart. I knew down to the very depths of my soul, even during all the chaos and confusion, that this was the very first step to living my life the way I'm meant to. My Pastor prayed for me, then smiled, and looked me in the eye and said, "You know what to do, Mandi, so just do it." And he was right... thus began my healing process.

This doesn't mean that I didn't still make mistakes or still enter into the same negative mindsets as before, but what this meant, is that I personally invited Jesus back into my life. Ya see... Jesus is there all the time. He's not the one who strays away or abandons us. WE are the ones who run away from Him, but something happened when I asked him to heal my heart. He invaded my life once more and I started hearing his voice and direction; and I started reading and filling my mind up with His word and his faithful promises; I started to eventually get rid of the bad habits and mindsets and started creating new, meaningful, and pure habits; I started speaking his word and breath of life into my future; I started worshiping Him from the very heart of my hearts; I started delighting myself in the Lord 100%! I was on the path to full healing and restoration! I made mistakes and it took time to stop all the bad habits... but after 7 months... let me tell ya! I reached a new and exciting place with the Lord! I was fully healed; I was restored and pure again! I was expectant and hopeful of GOOD and Godly things happening in my life! I experienced true Grace and forgiveness. I now knew what it meant to need a Saviour... to not just want, but to actually NEED the love of Jesus in my life. I was no longer just choosing to live a pure and Christian lifesytle, but I NEEDED it like I needed the very breath I breathe.

I have been fully healed and restored for almost 4 months now. And these past few months have been the BEST in my life! I finally reached a place of peace and contentment. I am no longer lonely; I no longer feel the need to search and search and search for a husband; I even stopped focusing on me and started investing more in my friends and family. According to Websters, to delight means, "to take great pleasure in". Well, I was finally there! I delighted and LOVED hanging out with just me and God! I was in love for the first time! I couldn't stop talking about everything He has done and is doing in my life! I experiened true happiness and joy from the inside out!

According to his word and one of His faithful promises that I've held onto is this: Take delight in the Lord and He will give you your heart's desires. Psalm 37:4 And here's another scripture later on in Psalms, with that same promise: The Lord is close to all who call on Him, yes, to all who call on Him sincerely. He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cries for help and rescues them. Psalm 145:18-19

Wow! I get chills from reading just blatant truth and love in those words! God loves you, friends and I love you, too! And because I love you, I want you to experience healing and restoration in whatever you're going through in your life. Delight yourselves in the Lord this week. No, delight yourself in the Lord always and start expecting GOOD things to happen! Like I mentioned before, this past week has been life-changing. My deepest desires... some that I had even forgotten about... have been fully granted. I am not only restored and healed, but I am now fully COMPLETE! I am overflowing and "bursting at the seams" (Isaiah 54:2 Enlarge your house, build an addition, spread out your home; for soon you will be bursting at the seams.)

Jesus is Lord! And God is FAITHFUL, friends! Allow Him to come into your life and grant you the deepest desires of your heart! His promises are REAL and He desires to bless you in every way!

Pollie the Pug Fairy Update

Pollie the Pug Fairy has recently acquired a new TuTu and she wanted to share it with everybody! She has also recently just recovered from a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection), which explains why her previous visit to the Nursing Home, she kept having accidents. She's feeling MUUUCCHHH better now and is back to her happy, snorting self! We're still working on some weight loss goals, so she can be even more healthy and happy as she ministers and makes people smile... but after a recent trip to the Dr., we were excited to find out that she's TWO POUNDS lighter! This is a huge accomplisment for Pollie the Pug Fairy, because as you probably know... after giving love to humans, Pollie's next greatest love is FOOD!


Pollie hopes to be back in the Nursing Homes soon! I will keep you posted! =)

McPIFP Goal for Week #33

Goal: Autumn Spring Cleaning!
Mmmmm.... something I look forward to every year is the sights and smells of Fall (because this also means I can start listening to Christmas music! Haha!)! Here lately, I've loved being outside of a morning and breathing in the crisp smell of the season changing. Although my allergies, which have never given me any problems before, have been going H-A-Y-W-I-R-E (I know I'm not alone in this!)... I've soooo enjoyed the progression of Fall. The leaves are already starting to change and some are even falling. One of my favorite things about this time of year is when I'm driving under a whole cluster of trees and all of the colored leaves are falling down like rain. Oh, it's so beautiful and I look forward to it every year! Observing the seasons change is probably the best part about living in the Midwest and I'm so thankful that God gave us such natural beauty to admire! After all... we are kinda stuck here in the Midwest with the allergies, ice, sleet, humidity, and tornadoes.... so the least He can do, is make it beautiful to look at, right??! ;)

This Tuesday is actually the true "First Day of Autumn" and for this week's McPIFP, I'd like for us to do an Autumn Spring Cleaning! Clean our your closets, storage units, garages, your children's clothing, look under your beds, etc... and give those items that you don't need to someone else who does. I've already done a McPIFP similar to this one, but there's nothing wrong with doing it twice a year. After all... I know I'll be going through my summer clothes soon to switch out my closet with my winter clothing, so I know I'll have bags full of stuff I don't need. You can give these items to any charities, or if you know of some families in need, or even to your children's schools for the Nurses to keep on hand. I know, personally, that my school could use some boy clothes.

I hope you all have a fresh and fabulous FALL week! Take some time out to enjoy the beauty of God's creations. OH! And do me a favor and start calling the radio stations to tell them to start playing Christmas music! I'm ready!! Haha! =)

McPIFP Goal for Week #32

Goal: Love on your Grandparents!

So as you all know (at least I hope so!), National Grandparents Day was yesterday and this year actually marked the 30th anniversary. Grandparents Day is supposed to be celebrated like Mother/Father's Day.... a celebration of the role and uniqueness our Grandparents play in our lives. But instead of just a day to celebrate, I want to challenge you to a WEEK of celebrating!

For most of us, we know that our Grandparents won't always be around. I'm the type who probably focuses too much on this fact--not intentionally of course... but sometimes the little Debbie Downer sitting on my shoulder reminds me! But thankfully, Debbie Downer's nemesis, Happy Harriet, reminds me even more that I get to spend eternity with my Grandma in Heaven if/when the time comes. =) But I am constantly reminded to take time out for my Grandma and appreciate and love the times I get to spend with her. I have been truly blessed with an amazing Grandmother. She is such an example of Godly strength and faith in my life, and I know that whenever I need prayer, I can call her up, and she prays with me right over the phone. She is so special to me and I cherish every moment I get to spend with her.

This week, touch base with your Grandparents and just simply LOVE on them! Take your Grandma/Grandpa out to eat at their favorite restaurant, buy her flowers, drive him/her to a Dr.'s appointment, bake him/her a dessert or meal, simply spend time and talk to them, write them a 'thank you' letter or card, offer to go shopping for them, mow their lawn, etc., etc. If you don't have any Grandparents to honor this year, then find a family member or friend or somebody who has made a difference in your life to celebrate.

And above all, let them know you love them. =)

McPIFP Goal for Week #31

Goal: Labor Day -- Look Ahead!

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. (U.S. Department of Labor)

Wow! In today's economy... is this an incongruous holiday or what?! How many of us know at least 3 people who are unemployed right now? And for those who are still employed, I'm sure you've never been more thankful for your job and have complained less about it in the last year than ever before! Fortunately, this is just a season and we, as the American people, WILL bounce back from this. Already... how many people do you know who are making the decision to go back to school? To finish their college education? To do something they love? I can name 5 just off the top of my head-- not including myself.

For those of you that don't know, I made the decision to go back to school to finish my elementary education degree, AFTER getting released from my sales job. Obviously, the transportation industry was one of the first ones hit so I was one of the first ones released. For me, it was a blessing and a release to actually go back to school and do what I wanted to do--teach! I see many of my friends and peers doing the same thing right now... going back to school to fulfill their dreams. It's a wonderful sight and such a liberating feeling! Even when our economy is at its lowest; and when our nation is as unstable as ever; and unemployment is at its all-time highest.... NOTHING can stop us from making something out of nothing, and making our dreams come true. =)

For this week's goal, no matter if you're employed or not, I encourage you to LOOK AHEAD! Have faith and a hope that things will turn around, for "faith is the substance of things hoped for!". Our Nation will endure and we will get through this. Don't be gripped by fear and uncertainty. Instead, PRAY and seek the Lord's direction for your life. He doesn't want you floating around aimlessly with no direction or guidance... He LOVES you and will find a way to be glorified out of any situation... just as He has in my life. =)

McPIFP Goal for Week #30

Goal: Compliment someone

This week's goal is quite a simple one.. at least for me. I can remember as far back as junior high, when I was only 13 years old, feeling the need to tell people how I feel. This can, of course, not always be a good thing but I've learned that along the way as well. ;) I've also always felt the need to compliment others when I see something I like.... not just thinking it and telling someone else, but I've always made sure to go right up to that person, or send a card/email, and let them know what I like about them. I've always thought in my head, "well, if someone liked my outfit or liked my hair or the way I smell or the way I handled a certain situation... then I would surely wanna know about it!" So since that thinking entered my head.. I've always made sure to give others compliments, knowing how much, I myself, appreciate it. Seriously though... who doesn't like to hear something good about themselves?
I figure paying a compliment to someone each day is a pretty simple and effective way of paying it forward. If you make someone feel good just by telling them that you like their shoes or they look handsome today.. then think of how that person will feel! If that person feels amazing and on top of the world from just a simple compliment, he/she is more than likely gonna want to spread that feeling around! It just all makes so much sense! =)

McPIFP Goal for Week #29

"Anyone? Anyone?"..... I'm sure you all remember this guy from 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'... how could you forget, right?! And I'm pretty sure he was in the 'Clear Eyes' commercials as well if I remember correctly.

Well, for those of you who don't know, his real name is Ben Stein. Stein attained early success as a speechwriter for Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. But later, he entered the entertainment field where he became an actor, comedian, and even an Emmy Award-winning game show host! He is most famous for his humorously monotonous voice in film and television roles, but still continued to write. As you continue reading, you will see Ben Stein's last article that was published back in 2004 for E! Online. From what little research I've done, it seems that this article has been circulating through email since it was first published and thanks to a very dear friend, I just now received it. =)

After reading this powerful article, I really won't need to set a goal for this week, because it should be obvious in Stein's writing. And again... it's not a goal just for the week, but for life! I hope you all have a great week! Much Love!

How Can Someone Who Lives in Insane Luxury Be a Star in Today's World?
As I begin to write this, I "slug" it, as we writers say, which means I put a heading on top of the document to identify it. This heading is "FINAL," and it gives me a shiver to write it. I have been doing this column for so long that I cannot even recall when I started. I loved writing this column so much for so long I came to believe it would never end. Jackson there a few days ago, and we had a nice visit, and right before that, I saw and had a splendid talk with Warren Beatty in an elevator, in which we agreed that Splendor in the Grass was a super movie. But Morton's is not the star galaxy it once was, though it probably will be again.
Beyond that, a bigger change has happened. I no longer think Hollywood stars are terribly important. They are uniformly pleasant, friendly people, and they treat me better than I deserve to be treated. But a man or woman who makes a huge wage for memorizing lines and reciting them in front of a camera is no longer my idea of a shining star we should all look up to.
How can a man or woman who makes an eight-figure wage and lives in insane luxury really be a star in today's world, if by a "star" we mean someone bright and powerful and attractive as a role model? Real stars are not riding around in the backs of limousines or in Porsches or getting trained in yoga or Pilates and eating only raw fruit while they have Vietnamese girls do their nails. They can be interesting, nice people, but they are not heroes to me any longer.

A real star is the soldier of the 4th Infantry Division who poked his head into a hole on a farm near Tikrit, Iraq. He could have been met by a bomb or a hail of AK-47 bullets. Instead, he faced an abject Saddam Hussein and the gratitude of all of the decent people of the world. A real star is the U.S. soldier who was sent to disarm a bomb next to a road north of Baghdad. He approached it, and the bomb went off and killed him.. A real star, the kind who haunts my memory night and day, is the U.S. soldier in Baghdad who saw a little girl playing with a piece of unexploded ordnance on a street near where he was guarding a station. He pushed her aside and threw himself on it just as it exploded. He left a family desolate in California and a little girl alive in Baghdad.
The stars who deserve media attention are not the ones who have lavish weddings on TV but the ones who patrol the streets of Mosul even after two of their buddies were murdered and their bodies battered and stripped for the sin of trying to protect Iraqis from terrorists. We put couples with incomes of $100 million a year on the covers of our magazines. The noncoms and officers who barely scrape by on military pay but stand on guard in Afghanistan and Iraq and on ships and in submarines and near the Arctic Circle are anonymous as they live and die.
I am no longer comfortable being a part of the system that has such poor values, and I do not want to perpetuate those values by pretending that who is eating at Morton's is a big subject.
There are plenty of other stars in the American firmament....the policemen and women who go off on patrol in South Central and have no idea if they will return alive. The orderlies and paramedics who bring in people who have been in terrible accidents and prepare them for surgery, the teachers and nurses who throw their whole spirits into caring for autistic children, the kind men and women who work in hospices and in cancer wards.
Think of each and every fireman who was running up the stairs at the World Trade Center as the towers began to collapse. Now you have my idea of a real hero.
We are not responsible for the operation of the universe, and what happens to us is not terribly important. God is real, not a fiction, and when we turn over our lives to Him, he takes far better care of us than we could ever do for ourselves. In a word, we make ourselves sane when we fire ourselves as the directors ofthe movie of our lives and turn the power over to Him.

I came to realize that life lived to help others is the only one that matters.
This is my highest and best use as a human. I can put it another way. Years ago, I realized I could never be as great an actor as Olivier or as good a comic as Steve Martin--or Martin Mull or Fred Willard--or as good an economist as Samuelson or Friedman, or as good a writer as Fitzgerald. Or even remotely close to any of them.
But I could be a devoted father to my son, husband to my wife and, above all, a good son to the parents who had done so much for me. This came to be my main task in life. I did it moderately well with my son, pretty well with my wife and well indeed with my parents (with my sister's help). I cared for and paid attention to them in their declining years. I stayed with my father as he got sick, went into extremis, into a coma, and then entered immortality with my sister and me reading him the Psalms.
This was the only point at which my life touched the lives of the soldiers in Iraq or the fire fighters in New York. I came to realize that life lived to help others is the only one that matters and that it is my duty, in return for the lavish life God has devolved upon me, to help others He has placed in my path.
This is my highest and best use as a human.

McPIFP Goal for Week #28

Back to School We go!


So yeah.... I apologize for not blogging last week. Needless to say, I've been so caught up in all of the back-to-school events that my blog unfortunately slipped through the cracks. I know, right? Shame on me! :( I'm getting back in a routine, so I'll do better!



But as you all know.... I, myself, am on my way back-to-school in the form of a Student Teacher! This past week and 1/2, I've been helping my cooperating teacher set up her classroom and I've been attending all of the PD (Professional Development) meetings right along with her. It has been a wonderful experience and I'm soooo excited about this school year! I'm doing a student teaching internship, so I get to be in the classroom all year and then will switch over to handling all of the classroom duties in January. During this first semester, I'll also continue to attend classes at Graceland.



In my recent experience, or "behind the scenes" of what a classroom teacher goes through, I've learned that when times are tough, it's the Educational industry that suffers the most. All of these teachers are spending more and more money out of their pockets in order to have supplies for their kiddos; they're giving up their last two weeks of summer in order to spend time disussing how they can become better teachers; how they can raise test scores; how they can meet the "needs" of the student... be it hunger, stability, affection, etc; For some, their class sizes are in the upper 20's... 25 to 28 kiddos per class, because the districts can't afford to hire anymore teachers; they're working from 8am to 7pm in order to make their classrooms as cozy as possible for the new little kindergarteners who will soon be arriving.



I could go on and on about how these teachers and principals are sacrificing their own family time and finances for the sake of their students. In today's economy, it's never been more clear to me that we teachers do this job, because we BELIEVE in your child. Now more than ever... when times are tough and school districts are predicting for it to be worse next year... I am SO thankful that I have chosen this industry. Not only do the children in today's society need us, but the families need us as well. Take heart knowing that your child's classroom teacher is there because he/she already loves your child and BELIEVES in them. =)

For this week's goal, I'd like for us to take the time to bless your teacher. This year's school supply list was very meager compared to what your teachers actually need. If you do not have a school-aged child, I'm sure you know of a school near you that could use your donations. If not, then contact me and I can tell you the name of my school. =)
Here's a list of some items that would be helpful to your teachers:
  • clorox/disinfecting wipes
  • hand sanitizer
  • supply/school boxes
  • dry-erase markers
  • washable crayola markers
  • snacks (check with the teacher on this one, just in case some of the students have food allergies)

McPIFP Goal for Week #27

Goal: Celebrate "International Friendship Day"

I don't know about you all, but I have been abundantly blessed with an amazing group of friends who think I'm a good egg! Haha! =) I have friends I've known for 20+ years... girls that are more like sisters than my friends; I have friends of all ages.. young and old; I have friends I've met during some of the hardest times in my life; I have friends that are actually included within my family; I've even developed new friendships this year that I hope to last for a lifetime!

I absolutely LOVE and adore all of you! There have been times in my life where I'm not sure I would've made it in the right direction were it not for the love, faithfulness, and advice of my friends. I believe that just like our fur-babies... God has provided specific people in our lives to simply be a blessing to us, and to bring us joy. A friend is defined as, "one attached to another by affection and esteem". And yes... that is a perfectly good definition of the way I feel about my friends. I am very attached because I love you so very much! =)

Today is "International Friendship Day", which takes place on the first Sunday of August every year. This tradition began in the U.S. back in 1935, and on this day, people spend time with their friends and express their love for them. For this week's goal, I'd like for us to honor and express to our friends how much they mean to us. Here's some ideas of what you could do: buy a small gift-- chocolates, flowers, their favorite drink from Sonic, candies, etc.; or take them golfing; or take to dinner/lunch; or send a card or letter; or simply send a text message or make a phone call; make their favorite dessert; give a hug, etc. The point is to just let your friends know that you love them and appreciate them.... I guess it's kind of like Valentine's Day, but with your friends instead. =)

I was in Florida on vacation this past week, so I apologize for not getting a blog in. I hope you all have a FABULOUS FRIENDSHIP week!

McPIFP Goal for Week #26

Goal: Stretch Your Faith

This week's goal happens to be a very personal revelation that I've recently experienced... it's been slowly building, but the truth--plain and simple--has finally made its impact! In other words... God's truth has finally set me free. =) Here's the story:

My whole life has been spent living in fear... not of death, or even failure, but I've spent my whole life in fear of truly LIVING! I've never tried anything "risky" or ever ventured out of my comfort zone for fear of what.. I have no idea. But I do know that the WORST feeling in the world for me is anticipation! I HATE anticpation and I HATE being out of my comfort zone where I'm not in control or feel prepared. This fear and mindset has crippled me. God has given me incredible talents and giftings. He's always provided pivotal opportunities for me to use these giftings to make a huge impact for His Kingdom; but because of my fear and inability to release control, I have missed out on these opportunities.

I never tried out for anything vocally/musically, because the anticipation scared me to death. I would think.... "No, I could never do that".... "Stuff like that doesn't happen to me..."; I quit playing basketball for the same reason-- fear of what others would think if I wasn't the "All-Star Mandi McMichael", like I had pretty much been my whole basketball career. Basketball came easy to me.... singing background vocals, or in a choir, came easy to me.... but as soon as things got challenging, or if I had to work harder, I would back out. If I didn't personally have control over the situation, I would quit. All those years, when things would get challenging... I didn't realize that it was the Lord trying to EXPAND my favor and blessings. He didn't want me singing background... He wanted me singing the lead; He didn't want me playing off the bench, He wanted me as the starting point guard (yes... point guard.. because that's what I was being groomed for at the time); He didn't want me to just play high school and college basketball.. He wanted to send me to the WNBA and play in the Olympics (Ha ha! I know... that's a stretch, but believe it or not, I had that dream!); He didn't just want me to have a few good friends... he wanted to bless me with an incredible multitude of BEST friends!; He doesnt just want me to be the usual classroom teacher, He wants me to be the "Teacher of the Year"!; He doesn't just want me to be the "Teacher of the Year", but he wants me to be the Principal of my own school! My point is that God provided me with many, many pivotal opportunities to step out in faith and accept bigger and greater blessings, but I was too scared to accept them. Obviously... That has most definitely changed. =)

In the above verse, it shows us God's vision for our lives. He doesn't want us just living the norm or status quo... His desire for us is to be great!! He wants us to expand our small mindsets, push aside the fears or doubts, and have FAITH that His favor is upon our lives. "For you will soon be bursting at the seams...." To me, that is a promise from our Heavenly Father who loves us and wants to bless us. Everthing in my life is so clear to me now. I can literally see every missed opportunity for greater favor that I chose not to accept, because of my inability to step out of my comfort zone. Literally. God's favor has always been upon my life and I've always known that, but my small mind could never understand the magnitude of that favor. Even when I chose not to listen to Him, or even when I was living in the "haze" of my failed marriage, He still blessed me. His favor was still upon my life and He was still providing opportunities for greatness.

Our Father loves us sooooo much! He wants us to make room in our minds for MORE! He wants us to expand and enlarge our visions! When those scary challenges come along, He wants us to step out in faith and accept those opportunities for greater favor.... because that's what they are. We just struggle wrapping our small minds around that magnitude of love. =) But it's there.. and our Father wants to bless us. If you take a look at great people, who have made a difference in our cultures and past cultures...athletes, musicians, pastors, teachers, explorers, activists, etc., you will see that they took risks. They had to step out of their comfort zones and just go for it! They didn't accept failure, but continuously overcame failures, by having faith and HOPING!

Faith is the substance of things hoped for (my current mantra).... whatever I hope to have happen, I must have faith. Here's how Joel Osteen describes it, "God works and operates by faith. You must believe first, and then you'll receive. Maybe you've been waiting on God to make a move, but God is waiting on you to stretch your faith."

This week..... stop waiting on God to make a move! Do your part.... by stretching your faith, accepting those opportunities for more favor, and then give Him all the glory! He IS faithful!

Introducing: Pollie the Pug Fairy

Pollie the Pug Fairy makes her first debut as we visited my Grandma in the nursing home! The Pug Fairy's sole purpose is to "sprinkle" happiness to everyone she encounters. But watch out... if you get too close, you might actually feel the sprinkles that come from her nose! Ha ha! She was a HUGE hit... not just by the residents, but also by the nurses and staff that worked there. Of course, Pollie has some anxiety issues, so she was in FULL snort-mode! You definitely couldn't miss her... either from the pink dress or because she sounded just like a PIG walking through the halls! It was a great experience and that was only Pollie's first visit. The Pug Fairy is excited to spread some more happiness as soon as possible!

I am firm believer that God gave us pets just because he loves us that much! They're meant to be loved on and spoiled.. and in return, they'll "worship" the ground we walk on! In a dog, you can find unconditional love! But I've found a new "calling" for Pollie's purpose... and that's to make a difference--to make people HAPPY and laugh and escape their hurts/depressions-- just for a few minutes while they admire the fat little Pug dressed in a princess costume! It was a revelation for me as I visited the nursing home and I hope you had equally meaningful experiences in whatever you decided to do.

McPIFP Goal for Week #25

Goal: Visit a Nursing Home

For those who don't know, I've been spending some extra time in a nursing home visiting my Grandma as she's recovering from a recent hip replacement surgery. I'm sooo thankful that it's only a temporary stay, but I've honestly kind of been enjoying myself as I visit her. =) She has her own group of ladies that she sits with at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They are so sweet and I enjoy talking to them. As I've visited there, I have seen such a need for love. Fortunately, at this specific facility, the staff is wonderful and really good with the patients and family members who come to visit.

For this week's McPIFP, I'd like for us to take just a few minutes out of our busy summer lives to visit a nursing home near you, and spread some love! =) I, personally, am going to be taking my dog (Pollie) up there to visit this week. Most nursing homes encourage pet visits as long as they're on a leash. Just like children, elderly people LOVE dogs! And it's such a simple way to bring a smile to everybody's faces. Here's some other examples: sit down and talk with a resident; bring them lunch (most facilities allow you to bring food in); bake some goodies; bring snacks, magazines, books, etc.; send flowers as an anonymous giver; participate in their activities for a day (bingo, games, movies, etc.). If you can think of anything else that you've done or would like to do, please post it as a comment.

McPIFP Goal for Week #24


Goal: Say, "Howdy Neighbor!"


In the Bible, one of God's most repeated commands is to love our neighbors. What better way to pay-it-forward, then to fulfill a simple commandment of our loving Father's?? Now obviously.. or maybe it's not so obvious... a "neighbor" in God's eyes means anyone around us and/or anybody near us or in our lives....friends, strangers, family, etc. I would like for this week's goal to mean "neighbor" in the very literal sense of the word-- your next door neighbor.

Show an act of love to your next door neighbor this week. This could be anything from simply introducing yourself, because Lord knows that many of us like to stay cooped up in the comfort of our homes; to inviting them over for dinner; to baking them cookies or a meal; or taking their newspaper up to their doorstep; or scooping up the dog poo in their yards that belong to your dog ( .... I need to do this one!); or if you live in an apartment, you could help them carry their groceries up the 3 flights of stairs, etc., etc. The possibilities of helping are ENDLESS!

Since I've recently referenced "Tim the Toolman Taylor" in one of my blogs, I thought it only fair that I also reference his good friend... "Howdy Neighbor", Wilson. We all know and love Wilson.... he was full of good advice and was one of Tim's best friends. Could we maybe become friends with one of our neighbors, and we just don't know it yet?? Find out! Step out of your comfort zones and let's say "Howdy" to our neighbors this week! Show 'em some love! =)

McPIFP Goal for Week #23



HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!

As you are all probably well aware of (the big fireworks tents are probably a good clue!), this next weekend we celebrate the 4th of July. To other countries, it's just a date, but to our country... the United States of America... the 4th of July is a day to CELEBRATE!! Independence Day is a holiday commemorating the formal adoption by the Continental Congress of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Although the signing of the Declaration wasn't completed until August, the 4th has been accepted as the official anniversary/birthday. It was first observed in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776, at which time the Declaration of Independence was read aloud, city bells rang, and bands played.

This document was the crucial beginning to our amazing country's path to freedom. My favorite line (one of the only ones I know!) is "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness". I especially loved this line when Martin Luther King Jr. quoted it for his ever popular 'I Have A Dream' Speech..... "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.'

We've come a long way since both this document and MLK's speech, but have we really united as a free country and accepted each other as equals?? Yes, we've come a long way... but we can ALWAYS go further! Because of all the recent major morality issues that our country is debating over, I feel that we are a very divided nation. Let us take time this week to come together as ONE nation... difference of opinions aside.... to celebrate our freedoms. Our Pledge of Allegiance simply states, that "we are one nation, under God, indivisible....". Let us be indivisible this week--not divided--and instead of focusing on each of our own opinions, let us focus on each other; let us focus on LOVING each other; and accepting each other; and let us focus on celebrating our freedom with friends and family; let us set our attentions on real and meaningful things... not whether something is right or wrong, or if somebody offends you. Let us simply celebrate LIFE, LIBERTY, and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS! =)

It always reminds me of how blessed I am to live here in the United States and no matter where I'm at, it always brings tears to my eyes and warms my heart. McPIFP Goal for Week #22

Goal: Celebrate Men (Ha! ha!)

Here's a cute little poem that I wanted to share:

Fathers are truly a remarkable influence on a child (young and old!). They play such a role in creating, supporting, and encouraging a child's sense of self. I, myself, am sooo blessed to have an incredible Daddy who loves me unconditionally and lets me know he's my #1 fan in everything I do! I am also proud to say that there are other males and "father figures" in my life that I'm truly grateful for as well. It's because of these positive influences and relationships.... that I just LOVE, respect, and adore men! Alphas, Betas, manly-men, girly-men.... all shapes and sizes and personalities... men were created by God to hold a unique position in our lives... not only Dads, but men in general. Simply stated: I.Love.Men. =)

For this week's goal, I would like for us to acknowledge and say "thank you" to a positive male role model or influence that you might have in your life. I realize that most of us have already acknowledged our Dads and Grandpas on Father's Day (or at least I hope so!); so outside of your Fathers, think about a male who has really made a postive impact. This might be a good thing to do... especially if you don't have a Daddy to celebrate this year, or if you just want to let somebody else know they've really made a difference; he can also be young or old--maybe your brother or a buddy that you admire.

SOOO.... this is why I call this week a "Celebration of Men"!!! Ha ha.... I immediately think of Tim Taylor (played by Tim Allen) from the sitcom Home Improvement! I can just see him now.... puffing up his chest and doing his macho 'He-man grunt'...... "hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo!" But even Tim Taylor needed to be told that he was appreciated and loved. Even he wasn't made of steel. =)
Thank you to all the strong, wise, and loving men in my life. I'm truly grateful for you. I would'nt be who I am today without your love, support..... and big, strong shoulders to lean on. Thank you. =)

McPIFP Goal for Week #21

Goal: Be True To Yourself

6 months ago, back when my family and I first thought of the McPIFP, we came up with a list of goals for each week throughout the year. I like structure and organization, so I was determined to go off of that list; However, that wasn't God's plan for this project. =) As I've grown in Him these past 6 months, I have tried to seek His will every week in picking out a goal that He wants me to use. The ultimate goal of the McPIFP has become more than just about making a change for the week.... it has become a goal for a lifestyle change as well. This week's came from an email that my mom received from Nightingdale.com's "quote of the day".

"Discover that the most powerful way to help those you love is to lead by example--- and realize you're leading by example all the time.
Your children, your spouse, your extended family; your colleagues and friends; your acquaintances at church; the server who refills your drink at lunch. These are your circles of influence in your life. These are the minds you help shape. And every action you take can influence their lives — which influences their own circle... and it grows exponentially from there. So the answer to the age-old question "What can I do to change the world?" is remarkably simple: Be true to yourself.

In Genesis 1:27, its says, "So God created people in His own image. God patterned them after himself; male and female He created them." We were created in the image.... the semblance, the type, the counterpart... of the God of the Universe!! How cool is that??!! When I hear the words, "be true to yourself", I think of remaining steadfast and strong in who I am, which includes my morals, values, personality, etc. But I believe that the REAL meaning of being true to myself is by ACCEPTING that I am God's creation. He created me.... little ol' me... in His beautiful and powerful image!
So I encourage you this week to honestly be true to yourself. Think about what that means and how you can truly make a difference by embracing who you are.... not only as an individual, but especially by accepting that you were made in the image of our faithful and loving God. =)

McPIFP Goal for Week #20

Goal: Volunteer!

This week's goal is to find some time to volunteer anywhere and with anyone! This doesn't neccessarily have to be at a charitable organization... this can also be volunteering your time to a friend in need.

Here are some more examples: volunteer at your church's Vacation Bible School (this is the one I'm doing!) to help set up and work with the kiddos; help a friend/family move; visit a nursing home to chat with some of the residents; free babysitting for friends/family; help out at your local homeless shelter in serving them food; and/or volunteer your time at local animal shelters (if you can manage this one, then God bless you! Some of us have panic attacks simply being near an animal shelter.... ... Me!), etc, etc.

I'm sure most of you already know a way to volunteer your time.... it can be anything, afterall.... volunteering just simply means, "offering one's service". How can you offer your service this week? How can you make a small, but meaningful difference in someone's life?

McPIFP Goal for Week #19

Goal: Give a monetary blessing to either a local organization you want to support or a person/family in need.

Once upon a time..... There was a time in my life where I received an outrageous monetary blessing from a dear family friend. He knew I was in dire need at the moment and he kindly handed over the money that him and his family put back every month, specifically for this type of occasion. Every month, they would give that money to a friend/family member who needed it. I believe they would also give it to their local church designated towards a specific area of ministry when they felt led in that direction. SO... how could I forget something like that?? I wasn't able to pay it forward to another in need around that time, because I was so financially strapped, but I continued to pay it forward in other areas... many that I have used on this blog. His monetary blessing touched my life (and is probably what self-consciously led me to start this project!) and I never forgot how it made me feel. I decided then and there, that when my financial burden wasn't so heavy that I would do the same for another and another and another, etc. =)

I know that most of us can think of at least one person who could use a monetary gift... usually, it's the first person that comes to your mind. So this week, impact someone's life for the moment by taking off some of the financial pressure they might be going through. This can be as big as giving them hundreds of dollars for groceries or summer clothes for their children; or it can be as small as giving them $5.00 to buy their favorite drink at Quik Trip they've had to stop getting to cut costs. Whatever you feel led to give, then give it. Make a difference in someone's life and show them what it looks/feels like to pay it forward. Let's change this world one small McPIFP at a time! =)

Today we celebrate Memorial Day... which is a day to preserve a memory of a lost loved one. But today we also celebrate LIFE! As we remember the ones we've lost and honor them by maybe visiting their graves, we must also remember to cherish the moments we have with the friends and family currently in our lives. Every day with them is a blessing. =)


Memorial Day is also a time when we remember all of the brave men and women who have/are serving in our country making this such a wonderful place to live.... and the United States IS a wonderful place to live! We're enduring hard times, yes, but we endure these hard times with strength and freedom, so yes... I am still a patriot no matter what we go through! =) "And I am proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free. And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me....."--the famous song of Lee Greenwood... ha ha... I love it!


This week's goal is to send a "thank you" letter to at least one of those brave men and women in our United States military. I've included a website where you can find addresses of hundreds of soldiers to choose from. When you click on a name that you want, you can also find a personal message from that soldier maybe even telling you what his unit is in need of if you'd like to send a care package. Be sure to read all of the "what to send"; "where to send"; and "how to send" because it will answer all of your questions.

McPIFP Goal for Week #17

Goal: Forgive (others or yourself)

I've been praying for the past couple of weeks about what I should make the McPIFP goal, and granted, this project is supposed to be a pay-it-forward-project; so when I kept hearing the words "forgive", I tried to put it in the back of my mind and use the words for myself personally. But everywhere I've gone and every time I seek the Lord, I keep hearing that I need to share about forgiveness. I've come to this conclusion because really.... this is pay-it-forward-project... and who can really move forward in life if they're held back by unforgiveness?

For the past 4-5 years, I myself, have been held back by unforgiveness... not neccessarily towards another person, but towards myself and the stupid decisions I've made. This past year specifically has been a revelation for me. I have experienced a freedom unlike any I've ever experienced before. I've chosen to forgive others and myself. I now know I'm at the place in my life right where God wants me! No matter how stupid the decisions were; and no matter that I'm starting back over in so many ways.... He loves me for who I am and I never would've experienced freedom and love like this any other way.

For this week's goal, I encourage you to let go and start the process of forgiving yourself, or someone who has hurt you in the past (or maybe even recently). Speaking from my own experience.... holding on to bitterness and past hurts require soooo much maintenance. Instead, let yourself be free by living a life of LOVE! Allow yourself to move forward, onward, and upward!!
Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must

McPIFP Goal for Week #16

Goodness! I must apologize because I have really been slacking and not getting a blog in every week. I guess I am human, afterall! =) Everything is going wonderful in my life, but I've just been so busy this term with my classes and honestly, it has pretty much stressed me out.
And speaking of stress...... tis' the season! Tis' the season for graduations, weddings, the end of school, crazy drivers on the road, etc. The more people I speak with, the more I hear about everybody being STRESSED OUT! According to Websters, stress is "an impelling force, a driving force; a strain". I'm not sure about you, but that definition of stress, which is an everyday word in my vocabulary, has an awfully strong meaning and I'm not sure how I feel about letting that word somewhat "control" my life. For this week's goal, I just want to encourage you. I, myself, have needed encouragement and I found it in God's word so I wish to encourage you guys as well. =)
Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all he has done. If you do
this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful
than the human mind can understand.

Instead of worry, I choose prayer.

McPIFP Goal for Week #15

Goal: Acknowledge Earth Day (April 22nd) and Arbor Day (April 24th)

I realize that this quote might be out of context in regards to Earth and Arbor Day, but I want you to open your mind and look at it this way: The definition of "neutrality" is 'the state of being impartial or committed to any party or viewpoint'. It's almost like the quote, "ignorance is bliss". But is it really??
In defense of our beloved Earth (the victim), I feel that too many of us (the "opressors") show neutrality vs. taking its side to make it a better place. I, myself, am guilty of this very thing. I ignore all of the environmental issues, because I can't see it directly applying to my life.... but it's the lives of those coming after me that I should really think about. I look at all of the environmental fact sheets listed on the website for Earth Day (http://www.earthday.net/) and it really makes me re-think my complacency/neutrality.
This week, I encourage you to EDUCATE yourself! Find out what you can do or how you can be aware of the environmental issues going on around you, and TAKE SIDES!

"He has risen from the dead!" Week 14

They found that the stone covering the entrance had been rolled aside. So they went in, but they couldn't find the body of the Lord Jesus. They were puzzled, trying to think what could have happenend to it. Suddenly, two men appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes. The women were terrified and bowed low before them. Then the men asked, "Why are you looking in a tomb for someone who is alive? He isn't here! He has risen from the dead!"
Luke 24: 2-6
The story doesn't end there. This was just the beginning! Why did He rise from the dead? Why did he have to die such a gruesome death? After Jesus had risen, he met up with the remaining 11 disciples as well as a group of Jesus' followers. He told them, "When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me by Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must all come true. Yes, it is written long ago that the Messiah must suffer and die and will rise again from the dead on the third day. With my authority, take this message of repentance to all the nations..... There is forgiveness of sins for all who turn to me."
As we go through this week before Easter Sunday, take a minute to meditate and think about the above scriptures. "There is forgiveness of sins for all who turn to me." This is such a bold statement that sums up why Jesus went through what He did. I'm blown away! He loves us THAT much! And He loves us so much that He didn't leave us alone here on earth. He said, "And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven."
As a daughter of the King, I have been given that power from Heaven. YOU have been given that power from Heaven! We are never alone and Jesus is always right there within us. It's such a comforting truth and I encourage you to revel in His love for us this week (and always!).
This is the reason we celebrate Easter! The word "celebrate" means 'to observe a day or event with respect, festivity, or rejoicing'. Let us REJOICE this week in the love our Lord Jesus has for us! And let us spread the good news to the ones we love! He has risen and He is real and alive!!!
I pray that He becomes alive in your hearts as He is in mine.

Goal: Make someone laugh

April Fool's day is tomorrow (I know! I'm sorry for being late again!)! This would be a good time to make someone laugh by playing a NICE April Fool's joke on them. We get the tradition of April fools day, because the timing seems related to the vernal equinox and the coming of spring, which we all know, is a time when nature fools us with sudden changes between showers and sunshine (or SNOW!).

If you're not able to get a joke in tomorrow on someone, then try to at least make someone laugh at some point during the rest of the week. Enjoy the freedom that laughter can bring someone, as well as yourself! =)

Dogs laugh, but they laugh with their tails; what puts man in a higher state of evolution is that he's got his laugh on the right end!

McPIFP Goal for Week #12

Happy Spring everyone!

As I write this, it's a warm, windy, and beautiful morning here in Independence Missouri. I know that because I live in Missouri, we'll still be having some cold days left before all the warmth, but I sooo enjoy these "teaser" days and am so thankful for them!

Speaking of "thanks".... that kind of goes along with our goal for this week!

Goal: "Thank you" card or Blessing Blitz
Pick someone(s) who has made a difference in your life.. usually the first person that comes to mind would be a good one, and send them a "thank you" or "bless you" card/letter. You can do this several different ways: If it's just you participating in the McPIFP, then you can pick someone to send a "thank you" card or "bless you" card to for the week; or you can pick several different people to acknowledge throughout the week (that's why it's called a Blessing Blitz!);

Another way is to get your whole family and/or a group of friends to participate! (this also helps in paying it forward!!!) Choose one person who has made a difference in your lives, and each person take a turn in sending a card/letter to that one person. If you do it this way, that person will be completely "blitzed" by blessings and love. How cool would that be?!

McPIFP Goal for Week #11


Goal: Go Green!!

So in lieu of St. Patty's Day.... this week's goal is to go GREEN!!!
Examples: choose an item to start recycling (most trash companies have the option of picking up your recycleables for a small extra charge); or you can carpool for the week or even better, maybe walk or ride your bike (if you live someplace that you're able to do this); buy products made of recycled paper; use cloth bags for shopping vs. plastic/paper bags; don't buy aresols; find out how to properly dispose of hazardous waste; make scratch pads out of used computer paper vs. throwing them away; plant a tree; don't throw away batteries.. instead take them to your local hazardous waste site; turn off the lights and close the refrigerator door immediately after use.

McPIFP Goal for Week #10

Goal: Spring Cleaning: Clean out your closet!

Yay! Spring is almost here! I know that most of us are ready for the sunshine and warm weather, but it's also time to think about spring cleaning.

The goal for this week is to "clean out your closet" and give your clothes/items to a charity. You don't just have to focus on your closet to give items away, but you can also go through your attics or basements or storage units, and get rid of "junk" that might be someone else's treasure. Have fun with this! You are blessing someone else with your items, but you're also helping to simplify your life!
